Antenna Return Loss or VSWR is one important antenna measurement to determine if the transmitting or receiving antenna is correctly terminated and not damaged.
The transmitting antenna VSWR can be measured by the transmitter but should be checked periodically depending on the environment to ensure the reading is correct.
The receiving antenna can only be measured by test instrumentation.
As a guide if you transmitter measures Reflected Power the Reflected or power returned from the antenna should be less than 2% of the transmitted power preferably less than 0.5% both allowing for for some cable losses impacting on the measurement.
The optimum Return Loss or VSWR for your system will depend on your your systems antenna, and cable length and type.
These figures should be available to you on your site original commissioning documentation.
